Dr Elisabeth De Waele is the President and Head of, as well as a professor in, the Departments of Clinical Nutrition and Intensive Care Medicine at the University Hospital (UZ), Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) in Brussels, Belgium. She received her MD from VUB, completed postgraduate training in general surgery, and became a certified intensive care physician. Dr De Waele is currently head of clinics in the intensive care unit, responsible for the postoperative treatment of patients recovering from cardiac surgery, and acts as the liaison with the surgical teams of the Universitair Ziekenhuis Brussel. She is the President of the nutrition team at VUB/UZ. Dr De Waele’s clinical interests include nutrition, critical care medicine, intensive care, general surgery, and cardiac surgery. She has published more than 90 journal articles and 6 book chapters.
