Course Description

In this course, Kim Milano, PhD, RDN, LDN, will contrast body composition with anthropometrics; describe typical changes in body composition with growth; identify factors that influence body composition; discuss the relationship between nutrition and body composition; and more.

Kim Milano, PhD, RDN, LDN, is the Program Director and Visiting Assistant Professor for the Nutrition Science program at North Central College. She is a registered dietitian with over 30 years of experience in nutrition counseling and patient care. For the past 10 years, Dr Milano has educated nutrition students and other healthcare professionals in both academic and clinical settings. She has taught introductory nutrition courses, graduate-level nutrition counseling, and has served as a clinical preceptor. Kim recently completed an international collaborative project to educate physicians and other healthcare professionals from more than 20 countries on the identification and management of feeding difficulties in children.                         

Her research broadly focuses on eating behavior in children and adults, with a specific emphasis on sensory or experiential reasons for food rejection and food choice. In particular, she has concentrated her research on food selectivity and developed interventions to increase fruit and vegetable consumption. Kim was part of an interprofessional team that developed a classification system for identifying feeding difficulties in young children. She is actively involved in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and promotes healthy eating behaviors.
