Course Description

In this UK-hosted course, Sanjay Suman, MB, BS, MD, FRCP, will recognise the essential role of vitamin D in maintaining health; describe the specific role of vitamin D in maintaining musculoskeletal health; and discuss practical approaches to identifying and correcting vitamin D deficiency and incorporating this into a multidisciplinary approach. Originally presented as a live webinar on 31 March 2021.

Sanjay Suman, MD, FRCP

Sanjay Suman is the Clinical Director of the Therapies and Older Persons Programme at Medway NHS Foundation Trust in Kent. He was appointed as Consultant Geriatrician in 2007 and is a Fellow of Royal College of Physicians, London. Sanjay has special interest in frailty, sarcopenia, falls and syncope in elderly patients and runs an orthogeriatric service for fracture neck of femur pathway at Medway NHS Foundation Trust. In his clinical director role he has developed a number of bespoke frailty focused assessment pathways such as the acute frailty unit and falls and syncope clinic for elderly. In the community, he has supported the development of a number of services such as care home support services, geriatric led MDT meetings in the community to name a few. He has been a recipient of Academic Health Sciences Network (Kent, Sussex and Surrey) Leadership and Innovation award for excellence in out of hospital care category 2017. As a subject matter expert, Sanjay has delivered a number of keynote lectures on frailty, sarcopenia, polypharmacy reduction and falls at national and international conferences. He is passionate about improving the reversible components of frailty, such as nutritional status and polypharmacy reduction, contributing to improving clinical outcomes for frail individuals, both in primary and secondary care.

Rebecca Stevenson has served as the Medical Director of Abbott Nutrition UK since 2016. She has an extensive background in clinical nutrition working as a Paediatric Dietitian specializing in liver, gastroenterology, neonatology, allergy, and general paediatrics at Kings College Hospital trust, Royal London Hospital, UCLH. Additionally, she has worked as a Paediatrric and Sports Nutrition Dietitian in her own consultant business for several years prior to joining Abbott. She is a member of the British Dietetic Association and served on the research committee for 3 years. Volunteer experience includes serving as a volunteer mentor for Chiva Africa as a member of the interdisciplinary team in Zwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa for HIV anti-retroviral roll out education.
