Course Description

In this course, Melanie Gillingham, PhD, RDN, will review factors associated with energy expenditure (EE); compare predicted with measured EE among patients with Long-Chain Fatty Acid Oxidation Disorders (LC-FAODs); compare EE among subjects with LC-FAODs to matched controls; and discuss potential differences in EE among patients with LC-FAODs. Originally presented live at the 19th Abbott Metabolic Conference on 18 May 2023, in San Antonio, TX.

Melanie Gillingham, PhD, RD, is an Associate Professor at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) in Portland, OR. She is the Director of the Master’s Program in Human Nutrition at OHSU. Her research interests are focused on nutrition therapy for fatty acid oxidation disorders. (FAODs). Her laboratory conducts clinical trials on various medical nutrition therapies for FAODs (current trials include oral ketone supplementation and the natural history of LCHADD retinopathy) and basic research in cell and mouse models of FAODs.
