Surekha Pendyal has been practicing as a metabolic dietitian since 1997, when North Carolina began the pilot project to expand newborn screening using tandem mass spectrometry technology. In 2015, she joined the Division of Medical Genetics at Duke University, where she inherited a large patient population with glycogen storage diseases (GSD), a challenge she was seeking. She has been an active member of Genetic Metabolic Dietitians International since its inception. Surekha has authored a book chapter on IMD, has published many articles on IMD in peer-reviewed journals, and is an invited speaker at professional conferences and the annual family meeting for GSD.
