This article, authored in part by Abbott's own Mary Kaminski DNP APRN NNP-BCi; Andie Lee Gonzalez PhD, MPH, RDN, FAND; Mary Beth Arensberg PhD, RDN, FAND, and titled "Nourish the Mind: The Need for Nutrition-Focused Education in Nursing to Improve Health Outcomes," emphasizes the critical role of nutrition in nursing education and healthcare delivery. It argues that integrating comprehensive nutrition education into nursing curricula—both at undergraduate and graduate levels—is essential for improving patient outcomes, especially among vulnerable populations like older adults and children. The paper outlines current gaps in nutrition knowledge among nursing students and highlights policy initiatives, such as state mandates and federal campaigns, that advocate for enhanced nutrition training. It also explores effective teaching strategies, including active learning and interdisciplinary collaboration, and presents continuing education and certification opportunities for nurses. Ultimately, the authors call for a systemic shift to embed nutrition deeply within nursing education and practice to support holistic, high-quality care.
