Play Video Unresolved Issues in Perioperative Nutrition Date: December 2022 Patients undergoing surgery are at an increased risk for adverse outcomes, especially those at risk of malnutrition or malnourished prior to surgery. Optimizing patients’ nutritional status is important throughout the perioperative continuum to promote improved surgical outcomes. ERAS, or Enhanced Recovery after Surgery protocols are the standard of perioperative care in many institutions, however, the use of ERAS protocols are not widespread, and protocols do not fully address preventing muscle loss, which is a common condition in surgical patients.
This video summarizes a recent expert narrative review focused on aspects of perioperative nutrition that are perceived as controversial or lack agreement.
