Intermittent fasting is a topic that has garnered great interest in scientific literature and media. Defining optimal regimens and identifying populations that might benefit from time-restricted food intake patterns is a subject of ongoing research. In the present seminar, Dr Ruiz introduced the concept of intermittent fasting, discussed metabolic changes associated with fasting periods, and evaluated recommendations to guide intermittent fasting regimens in the general and specific populations. On the other hand, understanding how elite athletes can benefit from the potential metabolic effects of these regimens without compromising their performance in competition and training objectives is key. Dr Lopez Chicharro addressed this topic in his presentation, focusing on the effects of intermittent fasting and nutrient periodization on exercise performance and training adaptations and discussing potential applications to elite sports practice.
Originally presented as a live seminar held at Real Madrid's Valdebebas training ground in Madrid, Spain, on 05 November 2024.
