Dr Sanaa Youssef Shaaban is a Professor of Pediatrics and Clinical Nutrition at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, where she also received her medical degree in pediatrics. She is currently the President of the Arab Society of Pediatric Clinical Nutrition; a board member of the Pan Arab Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition; and a member of the Egyptian Pediatric Association, the Egyptian Society for Neonatology and Preterm Care, the Egyptian Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, and the European Pediatric Society of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition.
Dr Shaaban was the Founder and Head of the Nutrition Rehabilitation Unit of Children’s Hospital of Ain Shams University (1997-2010) and Founder of the Clinical Nutrition Rehabilitation Unit of El-Galaa Military Hospital. She has been a principal investigator on several nutrition-related research projects, including the effect of oral supplementation with fiber sip feed in children with acute lymphocytic leukemia; modifiable risk factors in diarrheal diseases in Egyptian infants; epidemiology, demography, economic burden of diarrhea among Egyptian children; eating disorders among Egyptian children; nutritional assessment of Egyptian preschool children; and infant feeding practice and cow’s milk consumption among Egyptian infants.
