Course Description

In this course, Helen McCarthy, PhD, BSc (Hons), PGCHP (UK), RD (UK), APD (AUS), FHEA, will define paediatric malnutrition and its prevalence in the UK; review the role of paediatric malnutrition screening tools in practice; and evaluate the paediatric malnutrition screening tools currently available for identifying malnutrition. Helen McCarthy has worked as a dietitian and researcher in the UK and Australia. She is a specialist in paediatric nutrition, having worked in hospital, school, and community settings. She has a particular interest in the identification, prevention, and treatment of malnutrition in all ages and was the lead investigator for the development of the internationally used Screening Tool for the Assessment of Malnutrition in Paediatrics (STAMP). 

Helen has a passion for nutrition and dietetics, and empowering professionals with evidence-based nutrition education. Helen is a past chair of the British Dietetics Association Education Board, a Senior Collaborator with the Need for Nutrition Education Programme (NNEdPro), and a founding member of the NNEdPro Australia and New Zealand Network. Helen has been an invited speaker at numerous international conferences and professional development courses.
