Course Description

In this course, Katie Robinson, PhD, MPH, RD, LD, CNSC, and Skip Allen MS, RD, LDN, CLT, will evaluate strategies to engage community partners to provide ongoing malnutrition care in the community setting post-discharge; discuss the implementation of the GMCS measure; and list resources to empower clinicians to act. Originally presented as a live webinar on 15 August 2023.

Dr Katie Robinson leads the Medical Science Liaison Team within Medical Affairs at Abbott’s Nutrition Division. The Medical Science Liaison team is comprised of clinician scientists who support research and routinely present educational programs on behalf of Abbott. Her expertise includes obesity, malnutrition, and critical care nutrition.

Dr Robinson completed her bachelor’s degree in Dietetics at Iowa State University and her dietetic internship at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). During her time at UIUC, she also earned a Master of Public Health and a PhD in Nutritional Sciences, taught multiple undergraduate and graduate courses, and assisted with coordinating the undergraduate didactic program in dietetics. She then completed postdoctoral training at University of Iowa’s Diabetes Research Center. Her research investigated the impact of nutrition and genetics on outcomes of behavioral and surgical weight loss interventions.

Dr Robinson is a Certified Nutrition Support Clinician and has served as a workgroup member for the Evidence Analysis Library of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is an advocate for dietitians in research and continues to publish in peer-reviewed journals.

Skip Allen MS, RD, LDN, CLT

Skip is the Clinical Outreach Registered Dietitian at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC. Previously Skip was the Nutrition Director for Campus Dining at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC. He completed his Master’s Degree and Dietetic Internship at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC in 2015 and his B.A in Exercise Science from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in 2008. Skip recently moved back to Wilmington to help New Hanover Regional Medical Center develop the Malnutrition Transitions of Care Program with the support of Angela Lago, the Clinical Nutrition Manager. Since joining the NHRMC team, Skip has treated hundreds of malnourished patients across all socio-economic ranges and has been able to help develop standards of care for the NHRMC Malnutrition Transitions of Care Program.
