Human Milk and Formula Technician Educational Series

Series Description

This three-part educational series awards 0.5 CPEU per program. Each course is designed to fortify some of the technical skills commonly required when handling human milk and formulas in a clinical setting.

Competencies for Human Milk and Formula Technicians

In this course, Marina Hernandez, MS, RD, will explain the significance of nutrition for preterm and critically ill infants, as well as the role of human milk and formula technicians in providing nutritional care in hospitals; describe key features of human milk; differentiate between types of infant formula; and more. 

Continuing Education Credits: Dietitian 0.5 CPEU

Sanitation and Safety Principles for Human Milk and Formula Technicians

In this course, Marina Hernandez, MS, RD, will identify key factors that increase infection risk in hospitalized patients; discuss proper hand hygiene techniques; review proper donning/doffing of personal protective equipment; and more.

Math and Mixing Skills for Human Milk and Formula Technicians

In this course, Marina Hernandez, MS, RD, will describe the importance of accurate calculations; define common measurement terms and techniques; calculate fill volume; and describe the proper process for breastmilk and formula preparation.
