Oncology Nutrition Series

Series Description

This three‑course oncology nutrition series provides a comprehensive, high‑level foundation in how multimodal care, early nutrition assessment, and targeted intervention can strengthen outcomes for people with cancer. Together, the courses explore how cancer and its treatments affect nutritional status; the prevalence and impact of malnutrition and low muscle mass; and the importance of early screening, validated assessment tools, and coordinated, team‑based strategies. Learners gain insight into the evidence behind high‑protein supplementation, multimodal prehabilitation, and practical approaches to preserving muscle mass, improving strength and quality of life, and supporting better clinical outcomes across inpatient and outpatient oncology settings.

Continuing Education Credits: RN CE and RD CPEU credits vary per course

Modules

Oncology Nutrition: Exploring the Impact of Cancer Diagnosis and Its Treatment on Nutritional Status

Learn how cancer develops and how major treatment modalities influence nutritional status. This course reviews common nutrition-related side effects and highlights the prevalence and consequences of malnutrition and low muscle mass. It also emphasizes the overlap among malnutrition, sarcopenia, and frailty, and the need for early screening and coordinated care. This program was originally presented as a live webinar on 17 September 2025.

Screen, Assess, Intervene: Nutrition and Muscle Mass in Outpatient Oncology Settings

Explore effective strategies to screen for malnutrition, assess muscle mass, and guide early intervention in outpatient oncology settings. This course highlights validated screening tools and evidence-based assessment methods while recognizing their practical strengths and limitations to support improved clinical outcomes. This program was originally presented as a live webinar on 17 September 2025.

Multimodal Strategies in Oncology: From Theory to Practice

Discover how multimodal strategies can strengthen oncology care by integrating nutrition, physical activity, psychosocial support, and coordinated team-based approaches. This program evaluates the evidence supporting high-protein supplementation and multimodal prehabilitation, offering practical applications to help preserve muscle mass, improve strength and quality of life, and reduce hospital length of stay. This program was originally presented as a live webinar on 17 September 2025.
